Public meeting at Shepshed High School on 8th March 2010 to discuss the incinerator proposal.

Leicestershire County Council held a meeting to inform residents of the proposal to build a EFW facility at Shepshed.

The meeting was well attended with over 350 residents attending.   Unfortunately, the members of LCC who chaired the meeting couldn't be heard due to a faulty PA system.  Neither could they answer the flurry of questions posed by concerned residents.  The Councillors promised to respond to all of the questions, so if you noted the questions that were raised on the night, please email saig.campaign@googlemail.com

We have since been advised that there will be another exhibition held at Shepshed Town Council offices during 2 days, week commencing 12th April.  The closing date for objections has also been extended to 30th April

Keith Kondakor, Friends of the Earth gave a very enlightening talk on the impact of Incineration at the Loughborough Public meeting.  One document that he recommend we read is attached:  http://www.ecomed.org.uk/content/IncineratorReport_v3.pdf

Thank you for visiting the SAIG website.  By doing so, you have shown a desire to know more about the plans to build the incinerator on the outskirts of Shepshed.  Although this website is dedicated to the SAIG campaign, the incinerator will have far reaching consequences.  The emissions will have an impact on Loughborough, Whitwick, Long Whatton, Hathern, Kegworth and other out lying towns and villages within a 16 mile radius.

Help us to fight this proposal by writing to your local councillor, MP, local press, County Council or by signing our petition.  please view the tabs for more details.  Thank you for your interest.

After reading about the plans in the local press, I decided to research the implications of waste incineration.  The adverse affects of incinerating waste has been so well documented and the impact to human health and the environment so forcefully explained, that I became extremely concerned about the proposals.  So much so, that I decided to form the campaign Group.
